Excet Inc. is seeking biological science technician with extensive experience working with rodents to join a research group at a US Army Laboratory at Ft. Detrick, MD. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, at least three years of experience working hands-on with laboratory mice and rats, and having or obtaining the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technical (ALAT) certification test from American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS). The position requires demonstrated ability to follow scientific protocols and standard operating procedures. This position requires a flexible work schedule at times, in order to accommodate research needs, and will require occasional weekend hours. Due to the nature of the job and the location, the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.
Job description and responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated capability to work well as part of a team and to be able to assist research scientists in setting up and running experiments. The primary tasks center on the animals (about 80-90 % of the time). There will be other laboratory based tasks that include setting up experiments, operating a variety of instrumentation, collecting data and preparing stock solutions. Communication with team members, planning, and organizing and ordering related research supplies are also a part of the position. The ideal candidate should have relevant experience working with rodents. The ideal candidate will possess willingness to learn new methods and develop new standard operating procedures across a large domain of tasks, such as routine laboratory animal care and husbandry, performing injections, conducting necropsies, minor rodent surgeries, oral gavage in rodents, maintaining sterility in isolators, and making standard stock solutions and chemical solutions.
Required skills and qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· 3-5 years or more of hands-on experience with laboratory mice
· Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.
Desired skills and qualifications:
· Demonstrated skills in rodent husbandry
· Hands-on knowledge of routine laboratory animal care and husbandry procedures
· Demonstrated experience working managing test animal portion of research studies
