Hello! On offer is a furnished room with shared bathroom, but we can accommodate those with their own furniture. The other room is the same price, but it has a private bathroom. It's a great deal for anyone who has a half-decent personality and who cares about who they are living with.
LEASE: Both short (e.g., like some internships) or long term tenancies (e.g., a year or longer) work great for us. Either way, once you are living here you'd just need to give two weeks' notice to get all of your security deposit back on your last day. That said, the average stay is for a year or so.
WHERE: The neighborhood is relatively safe (violent crime rate ~1/7th that of DC and we're rated A+ on CrimeGrade). The Wheaton Metro is a 12-minute walk. Union Station is a 22-minute ride away. NIH is an 11-minute drive, and the 34 bus takes about 15 minutes from the bus stop. UMD, NASA/GSFC, FDA, and CUA are also close.
The room comes with a microwave, minifridge, closet, desk, artistic chair, and file cabinet. The linens are either brand new or all washed, even the pillows (not just pillow cases), and the mattress was sterilized since last use with pumped OH- and O₃.
Mounted to the wall is a 4K TV. It gets (i.e., you don't save by unsubscribing) about 33 local channels, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, ESPN+, Disney+, Paramount+, Showtime, and the pre-paid subscriptions to the pictured networks, four of which (Peacock, Tubi, PlutoTV, and XumoPlay) also have hundreds of the live channels normally part of a cable TV lineup. It's also castable (a required feature for the modern multitasker). There's even a desktop computer in the room.
At no additional cost, the room's temperature can be anything between 60°F-80°F.
There's a video giving a tour of this room (ask for the url). That means you can research the space as it would appear to you without much bother, but it also means when it comes time to move out you won't need to worry about your landlord showing it to your potential replacement. (Do you want people going into your room during your last month? No, but elsewhere your landlord will likely demand exactly that.)
Outside of the room is a gym, deck, hammock, grill, kitchen, movie room, dining room, and a guest room.
The price is $900/month excluding utilities. One of us has a public trust-like job that comes with strings imposed by the employer. (So, for instance, hypothetically speaking, if a foreign national were to pay us rent money, we'd need to file a report.) The ends result it that, sadly, we can't live with smokers, consumers of marijuana, or non-US citizens.
If you apply and are accepted, you'll have full control over things like who your future housemates are in case anyone leaves while you are here. So, benefits of having your own apartment without the financial strings.
Contact us for details. A voicemail will probably get the quickest reply. (We do reply to everyone so try another contact method if the first one doesn't get a quick reply.)
