Stunning Great detail with a Mid Century Art Deco look Display’s wonderfully and also nice and heavy
This highly collectible pair of bookends feature the unrequited lovers, Dante Alighieri and Beatrice Portinari. They were made by Jennings Brothers Manufacturing Company of Bridgeport, Conn., probably in the 1920's - 1930's. Beautiful chocolate bronze finish.
The Jennings Bros Open Book design is an elegant tribute to one the the greatest literary icons of the Western world. Dante's first book, La Vita Nouva, written n 1295, describes the inexplicable, instantaneous spark of pure love he felt when he first saw Beatrice, His last book, the epic poem, Divine Comedy, also inspired by unrequited "courtly love" for Beatrice, is considered one of the greatest works of world literature.
The bookends measure approximately 5 3/4 inches long. 4 inches deep and 5 1/2 inches tall with "J.B. 2395 PAT. APPL'D FOR" in the casting.
