Vintage 1950s Control Line Model Airplane – Very Rare Engine!
I have owned this airplane since 1959 and used it to learn to fly larger control-line models. Recently recovered and painted --can be flown or used for display. Flies very well - comes with 60 foot metal control lines and control handle as pictured.
1948 GLO-TORP 29 GLOW MODEL ENGINE – .29 ci displacement engine - This is THE FIRST commercially available glow-plug model airplane engine – previous model planes had spark plugs like automobiles. The aluminum casting for this engine is identical to an earlier ignition-type engine, but it was fitted by Lud Kading with the then-new (1947) “glow plug” and sold as a GLO-TORP 29 “Torpedo” model. This engine was produced only from 1948 to 1950, with subsequent Torpedo engines having newer castings. This engine was followed in 1954 with the K&B Torpedo “Green Head” series – one of the most successful lines of model airplane engines ever produced.
The engine starts, runs well, and can be flown if desired. Nylon prop.
