This well-made Fulani was made in Niger. It's a basketry hat made out of plant fibers. It's covered in leather both at the brim and top. At the very top of the hat there's a knob which is covered in leather. At the base of the hat there is a chinstrap with a tassel at the end.

We bought it from one of the merchants invited to the American Women's Club Christmas Bazaar in Lagos, Nigeria in the early 90s.

If our recollection is correct the Niger vendor was wearing it at the time. It made his traditional outfit look more dignified. We convinced him to sell it and its sister to us as a souvenir and to wear on beach and market trips or in TGIF parties.

Great for theater or music videos productions (check out Kendrick Lamar's All The Stars music video.)
