Natural Harvest Ogham Hardwoods Sawmill (Between Hamilton and Leesburg 1 mile off Rt 7/9 intersection)

UPDATE Month of September 15-October 15 , 2020.

October 20, 2020.

During wine grape harvest (August 15-October 22), visiting hours and new orders will be limited.

The covid sheltering provides an opportunity to get to those around-the-house woodworking projects at last (shelving; raised garden beds; work tables). We are open by appointment weekdays as needed: fresh air, sunshine, no crowds whatsoever in this rural setting. Feel free to come out and look around but let us know when you are coming so someone can meet you at the mill.

-We rough-cut wood, yours [you transport to the mill], or ours harvested from deadfall on site. Board planing services available with 12" planer recently added to our operation. Milling: $0.40/bf; planing $0.50/bf or as negotiated for volume orders.

Will plane and mill antique tongue/groove Southern pine flooring if all nails are removed.

Saturdays and Sundays as needed-please call about visiting weekends or at other times.

-LOCAL CONDITIONS: Tractor and mill in service. Pt cloudy/post-storm drying/cool/ (October 19); 56 degrees F/cool and damp; open as needed for milling ash, maple, black locust and firewood. Call ahead before coming out!

Come out to rural West Loudoun, see the mill in operation and have a glass of wine afterwards at nearby Loudoun wineries. Note: no tasting rooms currently-curbside pick up only!

BACKGROUND: Ogham Hardwoods ( provides beautiful, locally grown and harvested hardwoods from our historic 34.5 acre farm in west Loudoun County, Virginia. Since 2014, we cut dead trees or storm-felled timber only, ensuring a sustainable supply, and mill the wood on-site with our 18' portable mill. The farm has sourced wood back to 1830s, when an estate will map shows the farm as a wood lot. We are likely the oldest commercial logging area in operation in Loudoun County.

Direct-sale of poles, cants, planks and boards of Certified Moisture Content (typically $3.00-6.50/board ft depending on species, dimensions and hours mill work required). Special rates for repeat customers.

**Rough-cutting and sectioning (no finishing) of customer-provided timber up to 2'x2'x17.5' and 1200 lb (typically $0.40/board ft for milling; ~0.50/side/board foot planing; bulk rates available)

***Open to public most Saturdays until noon for craftsmen interested in the Woodmizer LT-15 sawmill in action.

Policy: We are not currently accepting off-site milling jobs: all our milling is done at the farm. Cash or checks as payment. Prefer orders of 250.00 and less, or larger orders completed in lots of ~250.00 for new/first-time customers. We do not request deposits for most orders. When projects are completed, customers have two weeks to pick them up unless other arrangements are made by phone or email. However, milling projects on timber brought in by customers will be held until they are collected. Sawdust: bring a bag, free if you fill. If we provide bag and work the shovel, nominal charge. Note: check requirements-black walnut, cherry and cedar may not be good bedding depending on type of livestock.

Limited stocks of unmilled lumber available as dry logs and cants: black walnut, red oak, ash, red cedar, black locust, persimmon and a number of other woods varying seasonally (elm, yellow/tulip poplar, chestnut, black cherry, black willow, silver maple (with spalting/ambrosia patterning), hophornbeam, hackberry, hickory, grapewood, basswood).

We source additional local timber of species we do not have onsite (white oak). Prices negotiable depending on material, quantity and quality -- make us an offer!

Note: no restroom facilities available on site, for coffee drinkers with a long drive...
