Looking for a special person to help support a 12-year-old girl in Arlington, VA, with school, learning, recreation, and self-care. The position is full-time (40 hours/week), with a start date ASAP. It will begin with several weeks of training. Training pay starts at $16/hour and increases after that, depending on experience.
Our daughter is curious, energetic, and good-natured. She loves reading, math, music, chess, Latin, Spanish, and going on very long walks (5-10 miles a day!). She is autistic: She does not talk, but communicates using a variety of hi- and low-tech methods. During the summer, the position will involve lots of walks and exercise, cultivating hobbies, working together on enrichment activities, socializing with friends, and developing independent self-care skills. During the academic year, it will involve supporting her at school in a fully inclusive regular class environment.
We provide lots of support and training, including from occupational and speech therapists. The position is a great opportunity for someone interested in a career in K-12 inclusive education; speech, occupational or physical therapy; psychology; or disability rights. We are looking for someone who is kind, patient, enthusiastic, and willing to jump in to new situations.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and have native-level fluency in English. Must be able to commit to the position for at least one year. If interested, please submit a resume with a cover note that explains why you are interested, what you would bring to the job, your earliest possible start date, and your COVID vaccination status. Thanks!
