This Philo VP-529 is a high-quality "white-label" unit manufactured by Shinco (Jiangsu Shinco Electronics Group), which was the world’s largest OEM producer of DVD players in the early 2000s. While this specific model was distributed as an Earthlink incentive, the internal hardware and control logic are identical to various popular "clone" models including the Norcent DP-529, Mintek DVD-1600, Centrios DVD-529, and Daytek P529. Because it uses the industry-standard Shinco platform, it is exceptionally reliable at reading various disc formats and is fully compatible with universal remote codes for Shinco, Norcent, Mintek, and Apex Digital.
