Jill's House Summer Interns work as Client Care Specialists (CCS) who provide direct care and supervision for 6-17-year-old clients with intellectual disabilities during day camps at Jill's House Tysons (Vienna, VA) and during weekend camps at Jill's House Blue Ridge (Middleburg, VA). Interns typically work approximately 50 hours a week and are expected to have the physical stamina to perform all aspects of this job, including various Activities of Daily Living for their clients (e.g. lifting, showering, diapering, dressing).
The internship experience will develop interns' exposure to the special needs community, enhance their professional and care-giving skills, and deepen their spiritual growth. This opportunity begins on May 21st 2021 and runs through August 8th, 2021, though interns are encouraged to stay as far into August as possible (end dates are contingent on each intern's individual college schedule). Interns are paid a monthly stipend, and those from out of the area are offered housing. In addition to serving as direct care staff, interns also participate in required social outings, Bible studies, and professional development opportunities throughout the summer.
During their 4-12 hour shifts as Client Care Specialists, interns:
Lead an assigned group of 1-4 clients through their scheduled activities (e.g. chapel, pool, music, arts and crafts, gym, etc.)
Follow an individualized service plan for each client in their group to ensure that their clients' basic physical, emotional, and behavioral needs are met
Provide a safe, fun, and positive experience for their clients
Accurately document details related to each client's stay
Cooperate with coworkers and supervisors in order to provide the best care possible
Interact with the families of the clients we serve
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree at an accredited college or university
Vibrant faith in Jesus Christ
Passion for serving the LORD and others
Desire to develop or to enhance direct care skills that will support the clients we serve

As a Fellow, you will serve primarily as a Client Care Specialist (CCS). That means you will be fully-trained to work directly with kids with intellectual disabilities, engaging them in a wide variety of fun activities. Jill's House Fellows typically work about 44 hours per week, including two 8-hour or 12-hour shifts each weekend.
In addition to hourly pay, Fellows live in paid, fully-furnished housing, and have sponsored social and professional development outings. Commitment of one year (June to June) required.
