Compensation package includes a base salary, commensurate with experience, ranging from $60,000.00 - $70,000.00; healthcare, vision care, and dental care; percentage of cash receipts on new client origination referrals, whether or not work performed by referring attorney; discretionary annual bonus based on both individual and firm performance; paid time off; employee eligible 401(k) retirement plan with firm matching after first year; firm-paid attorney bar association dues; and pre-approved continuing legal education course costs.
McClanahan Powers® has an immediate need for an associate attorney with some level of post-admission experience. McClanahan Powers® is a Martindale-Hubbell® AV Preeminent law firm located in Fairfax County, Virginia, focusing on the areas of business, civil litigation, employment, trademark, and copyright law. The firm and its attorneys have extensive experience in both transactional and litigation matters. McClanahan Powers® offers a friendly and family-oriented environment and, as such, encourages a modest work-life balance for sustainability and career satisfaction; in any event, the hired attorney will be expected to work an average of 45 hours per week, with only a fraction required as billable.
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
Must be admitted to practice in Virginia.
At least 1 year of post-admission experience.
Experience with Westlaw required with preferred experience in Westlaw Next.
Experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, and other software applications, including cloud based applications.
Familiarity with certain Intellectual Property (copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets).
Business, trademark, copyright, trade secret, or employment litigation experience in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Trademark litigation experience before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
Trademark prosecution experience before the USPTO.
Contract drafting and counseling clients in business and employment law.
Previous clerkship, especially in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, with heightened preference in Alexandria Division.
Principally assist one of the firm's members as his lead associate, with some minimal assistance to other attorneys in firm;
Conduct and manage discovery, including e-discovery, in complex litigation;
Draft and prepare pleadings and other related litigation documents, including motion briefs;
Supervised contract drafting, review and revision;
Attend return hearings and pretrial conferences;
Perform legal research through Westlaw;
Effectively and persuasively communicate with judges, arbitrators, mediators, clients, and opposing counsel; and
Effectively manage time while meeting client, court imposed, and statutory deadlines.
