Hello, We are putting together a cover band to do 2000s Pop/Punk/Emo Rock. We are looking for guitarists and vocalists. The goal is to build a polished show and play paying gigs in the northern Virginia area as soon as possible. If that sounds interesting to you, please read through before responding.
Bands we're looking to cover are: Blink 182, Green Day, Sum 41, Bowling for Soup, The Offspring, Jimmy Eat World, Boys Like Girls, The All American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, etc.
What we're looking to do: We want to put together a good complete show. So everyone will need to commit some time to get together, practice, rehearse, and go over all the details. We’ll need to collab on song selection. We’ll need to get all the songs down tight. Being as faithful to the original as possible, and creative where appropriate. Agree on a song order and nail down a solid set list. All members must be able to give and receive critiques, that’s how we get better. But this is not just a basement jam project. The goal is to get out and play. So we’ll need to come up with and agree on a band name. Also, we'll need to focus on appearance as well. So we need to plan how we dress, how we act, how our gear looks, etc. I expect as soon as we are ready we could start out doing a couple shortened 1-2 hour sets (opening for other bands), and if things take off we could end up playing full shows a few times a month.
Who we are looking for:
-Guitarist: Someone with great tone and volume control. Must have your own dependable gear. If you insist on a complicated pedal board, you better have it dialed in, and know how to work it. I am not interested in someone who has to fiddle with knobs all night and who "can never get the tone quite right" or worse, has feedback and cut outs and other problems. If you can do epic guitar solos that's great, but not a requirement. I would rather go with someone who has great tone, and doesn't get into a volume war. Must be able to do at least basic background vocals. If you want and can sing lead that's a bonus but not required. May trade Lead/Rhythm guitar roles with our other guitarist on songs.
-Vocalist: We are looking for a true Frontman. Must have vocal talent. Must have good range, I would strongly prefer not having to down-tune the guitars. Must have an engaging personality, good stage presence, and know how to work a crowd. Ability to play rhythm guitar would be a huge bonus, but not a requirement.
-All members: Prefer guys in their 30s-40s, but that is not a requirement. Really just looking for good personalities, people that are fun to hang out with, that enjoy and respect the music. The goal is to have fun while making some money. As far as skills, I am not expecting perfection. I am not expecting a note for note copy of the studio tracks. But we need to strive to get as close as we can as far as tone and riffs so that the music is instantly recognizable. Background vocal ability is preferred from all members. It is not a requirement for every member though, so if you are a good fit otherwise but can't do BG vocals thats fine. But we'll need at least a couple to get the job done. Everyone must have their own reliable gear. I am not a gear snob, I do not expect you to have the most expensive brand name gear, just as long as it gets the job done. Volume control is super important. We are not getting into a volume war. We are not going to need to wear ear plugs during practice or a show. I'm a sound guy, and I know most venues will not tolerate ear splitting volume, nor will I. Also this is not a charity, you need to be able to afford your own drumsticks, picks, strings, and other consumables. You need to provide your own reliable transportation. I don't care what form that is as long as you and your gear get there on time, and you're not a burden to the other band members. No drug or alcohol issues. You can do you, as long as the band doesn't suffer. I enjoy a good beer, but this is not a social club, we're here to do a job, so the music comes first. No wife/girlfriend/baby momma/etc. drama. If someone with you is causing problems, they're gone.
More about me: I am a 30-something guy who's day job is being a Sound Engineer for local bands. I have worked with many local bands and venues in VA, as well as WV and MD. I have been playing bass guitar as a hobby for years, and have filled in on bass for bands on occasion. I have contacts with other bands and venues, and can get us gigs as soon as we are ready. I would consider myself an intermediate bass player. I don't have crazy bass skills, but then again I'm not looking to play Tool. I can keep time with the drummer, hold down the bottom end, and have an ear for tone. I don't have any problems with alcohol or drugs. I have my own decent equipment. I have my own transportation. I also have access to a good PA and equipment if we need it.
If you made it this far, congrats! If you think you would be a good fit for one of the roles I’m looking for please respond with the word "Blink" (if you know, you know) in the subject line so I know you read everything, along with the following info and any thoughts or questions you have:
