We have an immediate opening for a part-time SOAR Benefits Specialist in Fairfax County

Pathway Homes has been dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness in our community since 1980. We are a nonprofit, community-based organization providing housing and supportive services to adults with severe mental illnesses.

Gain valuable experience with Pathway Homes’ proven recovery-based, Housing First model for supporting individuals with mental health and substance use disorders in achieving their goals.

Have a part-time (20 hours/week) Monday-Friday schedule that is convenient and flexible. No weekends or holidays.

Work within a supportive environment meeting regularly with your supervisor.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

You will assist individuals applying for Social Security benefits utilizing the SAMHSA SSI/SSDI Outreach Access and Recovery program.
• Screen clients for potential eligibility for disability benefits and entitlements.
• Use your writing and organizational skills to advocate on behalf of clients.
• Be an important part of the team by helping to integrate services, resolve problems and ensure continuity of care.
• Develop relationships by meeting with clients on an ongoing basis to obtain information.
• Establish a relationship with a SOAR representative at the Social Security Administration to facilitate services.

Required qualifications include completion of the SOAR course offered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration. Professional experience working with individuals with co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders or experiencing homelessness, and service planning.

Preferred Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related human services field.

Compensation is $20.24 per hour. Benefits include paid time off, and a retirement plan.
