Unlike standard consumer tripods, Linhof gear is built to last a lifetime. The Model 350 R provides a rock-solid foundation for long-exposure photography and heavy setups that require zero movement.
This is the classic twin-shank (double profile) design, which offers incredible torsional rigidity to eliminate vibration—something modern carbon fiber tripods often struggle with.
Also included is the Linhof Model 156 head, which is specifically designed for large format and studio work. It features smooth, damped movements and massive locking power.
The legs on the tripod can extend. At the lowest setting the height is approximately 34" tall without the head and 39” tall with the head. With the legs fully extended, and all three locks work, the head is just over 62” high. Of note, this head is missing the screw-in pan arm. Many professionals prefer to use these heads as "leveling bases" without the arm.
This tripod and head combination was personally used for decades, mostly for occasional night sky viewing with my vintage Questar 3.5” Standard telescope. The Model 156 head provided the rock-solid stability and smooth micro-adjustments necessary for the motorized base and high-magnification astronomical or terrestrial viewing. If you are looking for a period-correct, high-end support for your Questar, this is for sure the gold standard.
