Sales Associate (Thrift Store): full-time (Falls Church)

The Sales Associate at Northern Virginia Family Service's Thrift Store will provide quality customer service and be a collaborative team player exercising professionalism and will assist in promoting sales in order to meet daily, weekly, and monthly sales goals. The employee will represent the Falls Church Clock Tower Thrift Shop and Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) by effectively supporting the shopping needs of both new and returning customers. He / She will work with clients to implement the store’s sales strategy, promote featured merchandise, and perform cash register and front of store operational duties as needed. All NVFS employees are expected to demonstrate organizational values and have respect for our client base and the diverse community we serve. Each donor, customer, and / or store volunteer has a meaningful role in supporting the NVFS mission and the store’s sales associate plays a vital role.

Essential Job Duties:

Enhance customer experience by providing strong levels of customer service.
Engage customers, understand their needs, and learn sales and donation opportunities.
Work well in team environment with other staff and volunteers.
Maintain orderliness of sales floor and store displays to ensure presentation of items and merchandise re visually appealing to support the customer / buyer experience.
Assist in marketing efforts working in collaboration with the store manager and other staff.
Process sales transactions ensuring accuracy of payment.
Process merchandise following pricing guidelines.
Process store donations according to established guidelines.
Foster team environment with other staff and volunteers.
Assist manager with annual inventories as assigned.
Participate in regular supervision with Supervisor by providing regular updates.
Maintain current level of knowledge on NVFS programs and events.

Qualification and Additional Requirements:

High School diploma
Prefer related work experience in retail sales and customer service
Fluency in English required; bilingual skills a plus
Ability to function independently and serve as cashier to support front store operations
Highly organized, detail-oriented, quality-focused, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
Must have reliable transportation
Must be available to work on occasional holidays, evening and/ or weekends as needed with prior scheduling made in advance with store manager
Must be able to lift/carry up to 25 pounds
Successful completion of background checks required upon hire
