I saw a whole carton of eggs broken and ruined, on the floor. Someone had dropped an entire carton of eggs while "inspecting" them.
At the same time, people were grabbing cartons of eggs, holding them with one hand, and opening them with the other hand to inspect them, while walking to put them in their carts. (It was a little crowded, so not everybody could push their cart directly in the front of the refrigerated case.)
Seems to me, it'd be a better procedure to put the eggs in your cart, on something solid and then open the carton to look at them. If, in the 0.001% chance that you find an egg that's broken, then you can easily walk back to the refrigerated case to get another carton. That way, maybe, you won't risk ruining all the eggs in the carton by dropping them on the floor.
