Marigolds easy-to-grow from seeds, these annuals are used in gardens for boarders, containers, companion plants to deter pests (such as mosquitoes, aphids, whiteflies, ect.) & to attract beneficial insects like pollinators & ladybugs, etc. Marigolds are low-maintenance & bloom profusely making them a versatile & cheerful addition to any sunny spot.
Growing Conditions:
Sunlight: Full sun (6 – 8 hours) is ideal
Soil: Well-Drained, average to rich soil. Moderately fertile soil w/a slightly acidic to neutral range pH between 6.0 & 7.0.
Water: Regular watering, once established at least twice a week increase frequency for potted marigolds or extreme heat. Always Water at the base of the plant to keep foliage dry to reduce the risk of mold & disease. So Water deeply but infrequently allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between watering to prevent root rot. If marigolds are withering, they require water. Once marigolds are established, they are relatively drought-tolerant.
Planting: Plant seeds at depth of 1/16 inch to ¼ inch deep in well-draining soil, spaced 12 inches apart (1- 2 inches for thinning later). Requires full sun & consistent moisture for germination. Seeds germinate in 4 – 14 days & blooming season is about 8 - 10 weeks.
Maintenance: Apply mulch to retain soil moisture. Deadhead (remove/clip) faded & spent flowers to encourage lots more blooms.
Marigolds Symbolism: Sun, Joy, Resilience, Passion, & in Mexico the connection between life & death.
