Welcome to Arundel House! We have a medium sized room (about 13 x 13) that receives morning sun available now on the second floor of the house. The room is fully furnished as you see in the photos. You would need to provide sheets, towels, and pillows and there is no room for storage of your furniture. Hardwood floors that are beautifully finished are throughout the house which is over 100 years old with a nice front porch and rear garden patio. The ground floor has a living room, kitchen, dining room, and a large sun room in the rear with a fireplace. The house is managed by two very friendly cats. We welcome GLBT or straight candidates and embrace cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity. The room is for a single rental, not a couple. Rent includes cable, and wireless internet. Gas, water, and electric are split among all occupants. Deposit is one month’s rent of $540 plus $50 utility deposit. We share cleaning of the bathrooms (2) and the common areas. Tenants have full use of the common areas.
We are looking for a person who will "fit" into the "life of the house". We have tried to build a sense of community, sort of like building a house family. We are male and female, gay and straight, US and International citizens, 20s and 40s, and some other mixes. We frequently host couchsurfers from other nations. We prefer movies over tv, though Wednesday, Money Heist, and Shameless are house favourites. We prefer fresh air over air conditioning (turn it on over 80) and sweaters over t-shirts in winter (keep thermostat at 68). We all share in daily cleaning of the kitchen dishes, utensils, etc, share with taking out trash, contributing paper towels, dish-washing liquid, etc. We occasionally sit around, have dinner together or drink a few beers, and discuss global warming, politics, and solutions to the problems of the world (or just our own). We are all involved in volunteer and enrichment activities or classes and rarely watch tv, though we do watch quite a few movies. Our house philosophy is "life comes by once, grab it and take full advantage of it."
The house is occupied by the owner who is interested in travel and world affairs, so an international connection is a large plus. We are twenty minutes walk from Hyattsville Crossing Metro Green Line Station and ten minutes walk from the MARC Camden line which goes to Union Station or Camden Yards in Baltimore. There are three bus lines that serve the house within a few blocks as well as the University of Maryland shuttle bus. DuPont Circle, Columbia Heights/Adams Morgan, Capitol Hill are accessible by car in 15 to 20 minutes. College Park and Catholic University are easily accessible by bicycle if you choose (or public transit). Shops, five grocery stores (Giant, Safeway, Trader Joe's, Wholefoods, Yes Organic), restaurants, Vigilante Coffee, a 14 theatre cineplex, and a mall are all within ten to twenty minutes walk. The Hyattsville Arts District is just a few blocks away and has some specialty stores and cafes. Please email to tell us a bit about you and ask to arrange to see the house and room. Thank you for considering us. Taylor
